Just as the word “animal” represents many different kinds of creatures, the word “cancer” represents many different things as well.
There are several reasons why there are many different types of cancer.
One reason why is that every organ in the body can develop cancer. Also, even within that organ, there are different cell types. When a normal cell type becomes cancerous, the name “carcinoma” is usually added to it.
When discussing cancer treatment, we usually break it down into the body sites where the cancer is. Or, sometimes, we break it down into the cancer cell type.
